Pedro Duque Cornejo
The Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple

1748
Choir stall, Cáceres Cathedral, Cáceres, Spain

Following the usual iconography, Mary is a small child approaching the high priest in his characteristic headpiece, observed from the bottom of the steps by her parents and others. The temple is classical in design, with Corinthian columns and a door to the cella.
